Study Shows that Hispanics Receive Poorer Nursing Home Care

A Brown University study shows that nursing home facilities with a primarily Hispanic resident population generally provide lower quality care than facilities primarily servicing whites. Investigators examined Minimum Data Set and federal OSCAR data to reach their conclusions. This comes after a study released two years ago that blacks were more likely than whites to reside in underperforming nursing homes. The study subjects were 65 and older and living in nursing homes in the west. Discrimination in nursing homes can happen anywhere, including in Chicago, Illinois.
