Pleasant Care Corp. fined $80,000 by state

Emmanuel Health Care Center, a nursing home owned by Pleasant Care Corp., has recently been filed $80,000 by the state of California for negligent care that led to a resident’s wrongful death. The 54 year-old male resident required total assistance with daily living and was found lying on the floor with an injury to his forehead. Facility staff failed to assess the extent of this personal injury. Staff also failed to notify the resident’s physician of the injury. Two days later, this untreated injury led to a massive bilateral intracerebral hemorrhage, which was the ultimate cause of the resident’s death. This death was the third in three years for Pleasant Care Corp., which filed for Chapter 11 protection last March.
