National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry conference brings suggestions, warnings

At the recent annual conference sponsored by the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry, speakers included Newt Gingrich (co-chair of the National Commission for Quality Long-Term Care) and Alan Greenspan (former Chairman of the Federal Reserve). Gingrich explained that in the future, successful long-term care facilities in the future will have to use more technology and implement four key pillars: physical, mental, social, and spiritual programs. He also endorsed the idea that Medicaid should begin to implement new rules to encourage families to participate in the care of loved ones. Greenspan, the keynote speaker, warned that the future holds Medicare cuts and an insufficient long-term care labor force despite an enormously growing elderly population.
