Families in Turmoil When Nursing Home Closes

Many family members are scrambling to find placement for their loved ones after a nursing home is on the verge of closing. The nursing homes Medicaid contract will expire Nov. 1. State health officials met with family members to help with the process, and the state said that they are only required by law to give a 15-day notice to the nursing home. This is a short amount of time to inform family members that they are going to need to find a new nursing home. The state officials were reluctant to discuss inspections results that included citations of alleged nursing home abuse. These citations led to the closure which left family members to find another place for their loved ones. Most family members felt that the 15 day notice was not enough time. Many elderly patients are on waiting lists and many others will go home with family members. To read the full story, click here.
