Elgin Man Admits Raping Elderly Woman

An Elgin, Illinois man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting an elderly woman at the nursing home where they were both patients. The 22 year old man pled guilty to aggravated sexual assault in exchange for the sentence. The aggressor had snuck into the room of a 68-year-old woman at Maplewood Care in Elgin and raped her. He had entered the room while the victim was asleep and the nursing staff later found him hiding in her bathroom. Nursing home staff must be on alert when there is a mix of mentally ill and elderly patients to avoid sexual abuse. This type of elderly abuse has become all too common in Illinois nursing homes.
