Crowd Demands Nursing Home Remains Open

At a public hearing before the state Department of Social Services an angry crowd argued for more than an hour against closings a town’s only nursing home. More than 100 people jammed the hearing room contesting the nursing home’s closure. Genesis Healthcare sent a letter of intent to the Department of Social Services seeking permission to close the home. The nursing home residents do not want to feel tossed out of their homes. Yet, the company believes that the repairs are too costly to keep the nursing home open. When a nursing home is closed, the lives of the elderly residents are severely disrupted.
