Across the country resident’s of nursing homes will honor the individual rights of long-term care residents by celebrating Resident’s Right’s Week from October 5 to the 11th. Designated by the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care, the week highlights the importance of resident participation in discussions about improving the quality of care in their long-term care facilities. There are currently some 2.7 million Americans living in 62,000 nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and board and care homes across the country. The theme this year is “Recipe for Home: Defining and Creating Home in Long-Term Care Facilities” focuses on increasing awareness of residents’ right to live in a home and promote culture change by encouraging facility staff to let residents make decisions about what makes them feel at home and implementing those decisions.
