A class action lawsuit was filed last month against Extendicare, a company that owns 268 nursing homes throughout North America. Extendicare is one of the largest long-term and short-term care facilities in North America. Extendicare has just responded to this lawsuit by claiming that the allegations being made are “false and misleading” and that they will be defending themselves against the lawsuit in court. The class action lawsuit claims the nursing homes under Extendicare are under such tight budgets that they are not able to offer appropriate care to their patients, leading to nursing home neglect. They also claim that the company makes false statements and keep certain facts hidden in order to get new clients, even though they currently do not have the resources necessary to care for their clients and are neglecting many of them.
