The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the Illinois Association of Health Care Facilities (IACHF), who represents 114 nursing homes in the Chicago area, released a report on the misplaced priorities in Chicago area nursing homes which can lead to abuse and neglect.
The report concludes that the level of care in Chicago area nursing homes is below the nationally recommended threshold based on number of hours of direct care per resident per day. High employee turnover, low staffing and misappropriation of funds is to blame. Specifically, a disproportionately high amount of public funds go to high executive compensations and profits for the nursing home.
