John Perconti, Mike Bonamarte, and Margaret Battersby Black are all recipients of honors for Trial Lawyer Excellence for 2015. The honors were awarded at the Jury Verdict Reporter awards ceremony, held in late October. All three attorneys worked together on a record-setting case in 2014. Jury Verdict Reporter, JVR, is published by the Law Bulletin. Each year the publication honors awards in various categories for outstanding accomplishments. This year’s award ceremony was held at the Winter Garden at Harold Washington Library in Chicago.
Record Setting Settlement
The attorneys achieved a record-setting settlement on behalf of a seriously injured man. The man suffered significant neck and back injuries that led to partial paralysis after he was thrown from a boat after an explosion. The attorneys obtained a $7.5 million settlement which is a firm record. They previously achieved a $4.5 million settlement in 2008. Mike Bonamarte is also a prior award winner. He, along with Levin and Perconti partner Steve Levin, received the Trial Lawyer Excellence Award in 2012 for the highest reported Illinois verdict that year.
