Federal Officials Finally Investigate Abuse at Chicago Nursing Home

Federal investigators are looking at a troubled home which appears to be guilty of Chicago nursing home abuse. Somerset Place is a Chicago nursing home in the area of Uptown that specializes in mentally ill adults and has a history of citations for patient safety violations. Between April 2008 and July 2009, Chicago police have investigated over 15 alleged assaults or batteries in Somerset Place. They have also investigated five reports of sexual assault. Additionally, A Chicago Reporter analysis of nursing home violations from 2005-2009 found that this Chicago nursing home has been fined $100,000 for three separate incidents during that period. Two years ago a Somerset Place nursing home resident was murdered less than a half a mile from the home. However, two years later the home has still not been investigated.
