Woman Missing From Assisted Living Facility Found in Chicago

A mentally and physically disabled woman who walked away from her assisted living residence in Missouri was found in Chicago. The woman was promptly returned to her nursing home back in Cape Giradeau, Missouri. The woman lives in a nursing home that allows clients to come and go, as long as they sign out and say what time they will return. The woman left early in the morning, and after she didn’t return after a couple of hours, they notified the police. The woman had boarded a bus to Chicago, but no one is sure how she got the money for a ticket. When she got off the bus she told a plice officer she needed to go to a shelter. The woman was easily found because she is on a state and national database of missing and endangered people. Although this story ended well, it is an example about how wandering can greatly endanger nursing home patients and it is important that nursing homes monitor their patients.
