The family of a 95 year-old Virginia woman filed a nursing home abuse lawsuit and wrongful death lawsuit against the nursing home, stating that she experienced a marked decline in health after being dropped while being moved from her bed to a chair. The nursing home employees used a Hoyer lift to transfer the resident, but a sling in the device had become undone. The victim suffered a lacerated scalp, internal bleeding on the left side of her head that had to be drained, a broken clavicle, and a rib fracture.
