Elder Justice Act reintroduced in both chambers of Congress with strong support
The Elder Justice Act was reintroduced in the Senate (S. 1710) and House of Representatives (H.R. 1783) on March 29. Unlike previous years, the bill now has strong bipartisan House support. The Act contains important provisions for enhancing the safety of long-term care residents and prevent nursing home abuse and neglect, including programs to improve forensic investigation of elder abuse; inclusion of the number of criminal violations by facilities or their staffs on Nursing Home Compare; development of a consumer rights information page on Nursing Home Compare; authorization of new funding to improve ombudsman capacity; authorization of a federal report to recommend legislation or administration action related to criminal background checks of nursing home workers; and more.
