Fined for failure to provide adequate nursing care to meet the needs of residents. A nurse did not provide proper diabetic care for a resident whose blood sugar was low. Instead, she gave the diabetic resident sugar-free orange juice, which would not improve his condition, and his physician was not notified. Another resident received insulin twice within a week even though she is not a diabetic and had to be hospitalized both times for hypoglycemic reactions. In addition, a Department surveyor reviewed the records of seven other diabetic residents and found problems with their care.
