Today, Chicago nursing home attorneys Levin & Perconti settled a nursing home neglect case for $1 million on behalf of a 78-year old man who developed six to seven stage IV pressure ulcers during his residency at Alden Naperville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. The nursing home failed to appropriately assess, prevent and treat six to seven pressure ulcers that developed on his body while he was a resident of the Illinois nursing home. The man was admitted to the home because he was a quadriplegic and required total assistance with the activities of daily living.

A resident in an Aurora Illinois nursing home facility identified as a suicide risk was placed in a room on the forth floor with an open window. He jumped from the window and died. Suicide risks are not to be left alone and should be given a room on the first floor according to the facilities own suicide prevention policy. The resident’s fourth floor room was the furthest from the nurses’ station. The resident was admitted to the facility the day before and the staff was told by the resident’s physician to implement suicide precautions.

A staff member at Maple Ridge Care Centre, an Illinois nursing home struck a resident and gave the resident a black eye. Seven employees were aware of the incident but did not report it in an effort to cover it up. A false incident report was filed stating that the resident fell and hit her face. The responsible staff member later confessed to the incident.

A negligent Illinois nursing home is to blame in the death of a resident. At the Manor Care at Oak Lawn facility resident with a history of wandering left the facility unnoticed and was missing for 2 ½ hours. He died of bronchial pneumonia and hypothermia. The wind chill during the time the resident was missing was 12 degrees below zero. When a nurse realized the resident was missing she waited 40 minutes before notifying a supervisor or another staff member. It was an hour and 40 minutes before the police were called. A police officer found the resident laying face down on the street.
