A resident at a negligent Illinois nursing home died as a result of the staffs’ failure to administer CPR or call 911 after she was found unresponsive. The nurse who found the resident claimed she had never received training or instruction regarding whether or not CPR should be performed. Further review by the Department of Public Health revealed that 4 of 9 nurses and 2 of 19 CNA’s had expired CPR cards and there was no evidence that 12 nurses aides had ever been CPR certified.

Eldorado Care Center, an Illinois Nursing Home, despite knowledge of inappropriate sexual behavior by a resident, failed to implement measures to protect the other residents from sexual advances. Seven sexual advances were made towards other residents in a period of five months. The incidents were witnessed by nurses or CNA’s but were not reported to facility administration or the Department of Public Health as required by state law. The resident was often witnessed exposing himself to other residents and on at least one occasion was witnessed attempting to engage another resident in oral sex.
